2018 brought me some good times and not-so-good times. The older we get the more complicated life is and the more life lessons we learn. I’m here to share with you guys my recap of 2018 and my New Years Resolutions for 2019. I’m getting a little personal on my blog post today sharing all my learning opportunities from the past year.
The beginning of 2018 was off to a rough start, I just got out of a three-year relationship. Love is a tricky concept to grasp. I was dating one of my best friend’s from my childhood and it was the most wonderful years but also this past year was difficult. I learned with any relationship or friendship that I have developed over the years is that, it’s okay to accept the fact that we outgrow people. Our paths are meant to cross but eventually but it’s okay if these people choose a different path from our personal journeys. As cheesy as it sounds, it took me a long time to realize this.
Aside from relationships and friendships, I had lost my grandma in March, right before my 21st birthday. I grew up with a huge family on both my mom and dad’s side but I am the youngest on my dad’s side and I was literally my grandma’s baby. I secretly was her favorite grandchild and we spent a lot of time together growing up. She lived 90 long years but it brings peace to my mind that she is at rest and watching over us.
2018 has brought me a sense of a new independence and ‘girl power.’ When there is a bad, there is a good out of any situation. I’m at the age where I’m trying to get my life together and start the new chapter of ‘adulting.’ Graduation is just a few months away and is becoming more and more real. My goal for the next 2 to 3 years is to make a career for myself and to move to New York City.
Fortunately, I have been blessed with a lot of opportunities this past year.
✮ I landed not one but THREE amazing internship opportunities. My first one of the year was working for the Windy City Blogger Collective. My second, was interning for Modern Luxury Magazine. My third, is my most recent internship that I had accepted with Zapwater Communications.
✮ After assisting Kit Graham on the Windy City Blogger Collective, I was able to learn more about this blogging lifestyle and relaunch my entire website. I gained more insight, readers, and collaboration opportunities.
✮ I was able to travel a little bit this year but obviously it couldn’t top my 2017 study abroad trip! BUT I already started planning my 2019 travels — Charleston, Nashville, Colorado, Philippines, Italy, and Greece.
✮ I go to see a number of my favorite artists perform live this year, I literally cried when I saw Bruno Mars perform at Lollapalooza this summer. I can’t believe it was my first year to go to music festivals (Lollapalooza + Spring Awakening).
✮ Start to meal prep AGAIN. I was so good in 2016 with my fitness journey. Let’s face it, any faces a couple of slips during their fitness journey. So here is to starting over! If you know me well, chicken nuggets / fries are my weakness. It’s time to learn some self-control and know when to stop going out to eat and when to start to make myself food at home.
✮ Budget BETTER. I have always been a someone who saves but also I spend a little too much sometimes. I find myself at Target 3 times a week? Downloading the MINT app to help my habits.
✮ Consistency — working out, stretching, blogging, taking my vitamins, praying, etc.
✮ Expand my creativity when it comes down to shooting content and working on marketing.
✮ Continue to bring in my optimism, faith, and manifestation in the new year.
HAPPY NEW YEARS, LOVES. CHEERS TO 2019 ✨
xoxo — Bree
